of the CIC (Italian Composting Association)

The activities carried out by the Technical Committee of the Italian Composting Association (CIC) go hand in hand with all the co-ordinating activities carried out by the Association. Besides these, the specific duties of the Technical Committee include:

  • Promoting and co-ordinating the specially created Working Groups on particular topics

  • Finding and distributing information and statistics among scientific and technological research centres on issues relating to composting

  • Training technicians in the sector through seminars, courses and specific conferences

  • Actively participating in commissions and technical round tables with local authorities and public bodies, both national and international

  • Examining technical documents, draft laws and anything else requiring technical advice.

Some of the more important actions of the Association's Technical Committee include:

  • The study and launching of a PRODUCT SPECIFICATION SCHEME, which will be overseen and run by the "Quality Committee" of the Technical Committee.

  • The creation of two WORKING GROUPS on specific issues: "The risks connected with biological treatment with particular attention to the control of the emission of odours", and "Stability and maturity of biomasses subject to biological treatment".

  • The Technical committee also proposes various initiatives for training and refresher COURSES every year: in 2004 two courses are planned, details of which will be published on the home page.

  • A widespread activity for informing potential users with DEMONSTRATIONS on the use of compost on their land, together with a series of technical meetings "in the field" to present the product and the ideal equipment for its distribution in open fields.

  • Another important activity is that of issuing PUBLICITY, including articles, reports and technical papers published in most of the trade journals.

  • Recently, several STUDY AND RESEARCH programmes have been activated regarding the protection of the environment and comparative analytical evaluation of different kinds of compost in member companies

The Technical Committee of the Association is co-ordinated by Dr. Massimo Centemero.
